A Visit to Bunche Beach Salt Flats

Sunday, July 27th

After work Sunday morning I made a quick visit to Bunche Beach and as an after thought added the salt flats.  The beach was kinda quite.  Did note the increasing numbers of shorebirds returning from up north like some spotted sandpipers and Marbled Godwits.  Last week I encountered my first of the season Belted Kingfisher.at the beach.

Roseate Spoonbills

Black-necked Stilts
At the Bunche Beach Salt Flats I did encounter my targeted Black-necked Stilts. Plus dozens of waders including Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Tri-colored Herons, Yellow-crowned Night Herons, White Ibis, Glossy Ibis and Roseate Spoonbills. It was nice to find a Gray Kingbird too.

Had to have been at least 40 of these Least Sandpipers
