Banded Oystercatchers

Saturday December 28th

Recently, I birded Carlos Point on fort Myers Beach, where I encountered a flock of thirty American Oystercatcher. Six of these birds were banded.  Passed their band information onto the American Oystercatcher Working Group.

Today emails came in acknowledging and confirming these six resightings, with links to histories on each bird.

CA3 was captured and banded with its siblings CA2 and CA4 in July 2018 on Muskeget Island, Massachusetts. Its has been resighted over the past two years in southwest Florida in the company of its sibling CA2.   In October of 2019 its found to be ill from the effects of Red Tide. It was captured and treated by the  Conservancy of Southwest Florida, Von Arx Wildlife Hospital in Naples, Florida.  After four weeks of care its was released back to Fort Myers Beach and has reunited with CA2
